I know it's a bit late but I do apologize for what happened to SWO. We had a good thing going :p

I can't believe that to this day there isn't a finished Naruto MMORPG game or at least a near complete one! As far as I know there are only two active projects; Shinobi Life Online & Jutsu Online. Both of them have had a good amount of effort put into them but are still hard to hope for :\

Anyways Unity finally has inbuilt networking solid enough to support MMO development and also within the last month I finally completed my Bachelor of Games Development.

SWO has always felt like unfinished business to me... reckon I should give it another go?

This might just be me getting older, and as so I don't want to spend my time grinding so much for relatively little payoff. MMOs have to be such enormous games, with so much high quality content that has to be repeatable and be engaging the second time around.

I say that MMOs are out fashion, but I think that it is actually one of the core strengths of an MMO that has fallen out of favor, and that is community building. Making friends, getting a group together, and working together as a team to do an objective.

Now what power fantasy does Naruto (and most shonen manga) deliver on? I would say that they focus on the individual powering up to face a powerful opponent. And if you want to appease that fantasy in an MMO you have to invent a new way to raid and do dungeons new boss mechanics that focuses on making every player in a group feel like they are an awesome ninja. And if you focus on the individual like that, don't you take away one of the strengths of the genre? WE took down the boss, WE did it.

I just think that other genres are more suited to the IP than MMOs.
